Free AI chat, without an account.

Pick an open-weight model and start typing. No email, no phone number, no card — and your history stays on your device.

Most free AI chatbots give you one assistant and ask for an account before you can type. UsingOpen does neither. It is a free chat front end for open-weight models: pick the model you want, send a prompt, and the answer streams back. No email, no phone number, no card.

There are 23 models in the catalog, from small text specialists to multimodal flagships. You can switch per conversation, see live availability, and ask two models the same question side by side when you cannot decide.

What you get for free

  • A choice of models. 23 open-weight models from 12 labs — coding, reasoning, writing and multimodal.
  • No account. No sign-up, email, phone number or payment details. Open the page and chat.
  • History on your device. Conversations are stored in your browser, not on our servers.
  • Compare mode. Send one prompt to two models and read both answers side by side.
  • Visible reasoning. Models that think can show their work in an expandable panel.

Which model should you try first?

  • GLM 5.3 Flash — the default: fast, multimodal, and good at coding and long multi-step work.
  • DeepSeek V4 Flash — the value pick for text and code, with a million-token window.
  • Qwen3.8 Flash — a strong multimodal all-rounder for images, video and agent work.
  • Gemma 4 31B — writing and image reading, with zero-retention terms.
  • Kimi K3 — the largest model here, for the hardest coding and reasoning jobs.

Is it really free?

Yes. UsingOpen has no paid tier: every model is available without an account, and each user gets 10 free prompts per day, reset at midnight UTC. There is no card on file to forget about. The limit is what keeps a free service viable for everyone, and a request that fails before it reaches a model does not count against it.

The prices on model pages — dollars per million tokens — are what upstream API access costs elsewhere. They are useful for comparing how expensive a model is to run, but they are not charged here.

How is this different from a free ChatGPT plan?

A big consumer chatbot gives you one polished assistant. UsingOpen gives you a picker: you can use DeepSeek for a coding task, Gemma for editing, and Qwen for a screenshot, without creating three accounts. The trade-off is focus — there is no image generation, voice mode or cloud sync, and the daily prompt limit is deliberately small.

If you want a single assistant that does everything, a mainstream chatbot is the better fit. If you want to compare open models, keep history local, or avoid signing up, this is the point of the site.

How to start

  1. Open the chat page and pick a model from the picker — GLM 5.3 Flash is a good default.
  2. Type a question and press send. The answer streams in; reasoning models can show their thinking.
  3. Want a second opinion? Turn on Compare, choose another model, and send the same prompt to both.

Frequently asked questions

Is UsingOpen really free?

Yes. Every live model can be chatted with for free, with no card and no paid tier. Each user gets 10 free prompts per day, reset at midnight UTC. Models paused for capacity are unavailable until they return. The per-token prices shown on model pages are upstream API rates, not charges on this site.

Do I need an account, email or phone number?

No. There is no sign-up and no account. Open the site, pick a model, and type. Chat history is stored in your browser, so there is nothing to log back into.

What is the daily limit?

10 prompts per user per day, counted per browser and per IP address and reset at midnight UTC. A request that fails before it reaches a model does not use up a prompt. The limit keeps a free service usable for everyone; there is no way to pay to raise it.

Which AI models can I chat with?

The catalog spans text, coding, reasoning and multimodal models, including DeepSeek V4, Qwen3.8, GLM 5.3, Gemma 4, GPT-OSS, Kimi K3 and MiniMax M3. The full list with sizes, context windows and prices is on the models page, and the picker shows live availability.

Is my chat private?

Your conversation history is saved only in your browser, never on our servers. To generate a reply, the active conversation is sent through our backend to the upstream provider serving the model you chose. Each model shows a retention hint: zero retention where the provider offers it, otherwise assume normal logging. Do not paste passwords, keys or other secrets into any AI chat.

Can I use UsingOpen on my phone?

Yes. The chat page is responsive and can be installed as a standalone app from your browser's menu. Theme, composer and keyboard handling are tuned for mobile, and history stays on the device.

How is this different from ChatGPT or other free chatbots?

UsingOpen is a front end for open-weight models rather than a single assistant. You choose the model, and Compare mode can send one question to two models side by side. There is no account and history stays local. It does not try to match every feature of a big consumer chatbot — there is no image generation, voice mode or account sync.
